Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before installing a platform lift or homelift

Clear answers to the most common questions from homeowners in Málaga and the Costa del Sol. If you have a question that isn't here, contact us and we'll advise you without obligation.

+ Can a platform lift be installed in an already built house?

Yes. It is perfectly possible to install a platform lift or homelift in an already built house. Home lifts and platform lifts are designed precisely to integrate into existing homes without the need for major structural works.

At AKROS Movilidad we study each case in Málaga and the Costa del Sol and prescribe the solution that best fits the available space, the style of the property and the accessibility needs, minimising civil works.

+ How much space is needed to install a homelift or a platform lift?

It depends on the equipment. A compact homelift can be installed in a space of approximately 1 to 1.5 square metres, while platform lifts such as the SCA-H or SCA-T require a 1100x1400 mm platform.

In many cases an exclusive shaft is not needed: the equipment can be installed in a corner, against a wall or even outdoors. At AKROS Movilidad we visit your home or building in Málaga and propose the option that makes the best use of the available space.

+ Can a platform lift be installed on the outside of a house?

Yes. There are equipments specifically designed for outdoor installation, with materials resistant to weather and the conditions of the Costa del Sol.

The SCA-T lift, for example, excels outdoors thanks to its electric screw system, low maintenance and resistance to adverse conditions. Outdoor installation is an excellent option when the interior does not have a shaft or when you want to avoid works inside the property.

+ What works are needed to install a platform lift at home?

The works needed depend on the equipment and the condition of the property. In many cases the works are minimal: preparing the opening between floors, making a small excavation for the pit (or using pit-free solutions) and adapting the electrical connection.

Home lifts and platforms are designed to minimise civil works. In existing properties in Málaga and Andalusia, we usually take advantage of existing shafts, staircases or outdoor spaces to reduce the works to the essential minimum.

+ What factors affect the price of a platform lift or homelift?

The price depends on several factors:

• The type of equipment (homelift, platform lift or conventional lift)
• The number of stops and the vertical travel
• The drive system (hydraulic or electric)
• The cabin finishes and materials
• Indoor or outdoor installation
• The complexity of the civil works required

At AKROS Movilidad we prepare a tailored quote after visiting the space and understanding the needs of each client in Málaga and the Costa del Sol.

+ Is a pit required to install a platform lift at home?

Not always. Conventional lifts usually require a pit and a machine room, but homelifts and many modern platform lifts are designed to operate without a pit or with a very reduced pit.

Some equipments need only 10-15 cm of lower space, and others can be installed directly on the existing floor. At AKROS Movilidad we select the equipment that best adapts to the structural conditions of your home or building in Málaga.

+ What is the difference between a conventional lift, a homelift and a platform lift?

Conventional lift: requires a pit, machine room and structural shaft. Designed for multi-storey buildings with high traffic.

Home lift: compact lift with low consumption and silent operation, designed for single-family homes of 2 to 5 floors, with no need for a machine room.

Elevation platform: vertical accessibility equipment for people with reduced mobility, simpler and more economical, ideal for overcoming height differences of up to 13 m in homes, building entrances and spaces where a traditional lift cannot be installed.

+ How long does it take to install a platform lift at home?

The installation of a homelift or a platform lift usually takes between 3 and 7 working days, depending on the equipment, the number of stops and the civil works required.

The preliminary preparation (shaft, pit, electrical connection) may take a few additional days. At AKROS Movilidad we coordinate the installation with the client and, if necessary, with the construction team, to minimise times and disruption.

+ What maintenance does a homelift or platform lift need?

Home lifts and platform lifts require periodic maintenance, generally with inspections every 3 to 6 months depending on the equipment and usage.

Maintenance includes review of safety systems, lubrication, electrical checks and component adjustment. At AKROS Movilidad we offer close technical service in Málaga and throughout Andalusia, with fast response and scheduled inspections to ensure correct operation and extend the life of the equipment.

+ Which solution is suitable for a two or three-storey home?

For a two or three-storey home, a homelift is the most common solution: compact, silent and with premium finishes, it integrates perfectly into the interior of the property.

If the budget is tighter or the available space is limited, an platform lift such as the SCA-H or SCA-T can be the ideal option, especially if the installation is outdoors.
